Shaky

We had this ice storm back in 2013

Not gonna write much this week and probably next. We have a family medical situation unfolding.

I was scheduled to preach and celebrate a liturgy this coming Sunday but that’s scrubbed. I was working on a sermon from Hebrews 12:27-29,

…the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

Maybe God needs me to spend time understanding the unshakeable kingdom he’s giving rather than preaching about it to others. In a world of ice storms and health crises and politics and and and and… well, it is easy to feel shaky.

Let’s pray for one another and help one another let go of the shaky things, turning in worship to the One who offers us what is unshakeable.

  1. Prayers for you and those around you.
Reading the last chapter of a book this morning by Karl Barth titled Deliverance to the Captives, the chapter was called, Blessed be the Lord.

This popped up and stuck out to me so I underlined it. Then I read this, your latest entry. The gist of the chapter is about our grumblings that cover the specter of our entire lives. (We can’t help it.) They never stop, but neither does He.

What Barth points to as his center structure is the 20th verse from the 68th psalm. “Blessed be the Lord Day by day! He who bears us up is the God of our salvation.”

What I underlined: “Blessed be the Lord day by day! … Like an earthquake it (this statement of blessing the Lord day by day) shakes the territory of our complaints.” (Parenthesis mine)

May all about you be “shaken” as you bless Him through your life and witness to others. Strength and solidity to your existence in Him, my wonderful brother. God’s Peace!

  5. How I need reminding of this! I know it, but my eyes are pulled away by the world. Let us praise the Lord! His mercy endures forever!
